Mantis

Mantises are a group of insects that contains over 2,400 species in about 430 genera in 15 families. With the Mantidae also well known as the praying mantis being the largest family. Mantises are everywhere around the world and typically found in tropical habitats.

What many people don’t realise is how super beneficial they are for aquaponics, gardens and greenhouses. Mantises are general predators of most pest insects, mites and eggs. They will happily eat insects like beetles, grasshoppers and crickets. Therefore, protecting your plants from unwelcomed guests.

Some mantises are even masters at camouflaging. They can mimic the movements of a leaf or flower, catching their prays completely off guard!
