Elements Required For Plant Growth

There are 17 elements necessary for plant growth. They can be grouped in macronutrients and micronutrients.

Macronutrients are essential elements required in large amounts that can be derived from air, water and soil. The macronutrients are:

1. Nitrogen (N)

2. Phosphorus (P)

3. Potassium (K)

4. Calcium (Ca)

5. Sulfur (S)

6. Magnesium (Mg)

7. Carbon (C)

8. Oxygen (O)

9. Hydrogen (H)

Micronutrients are elements required usually found in fertilisers or existing soil. The micronutrients are:

1. Iron (Fe)

2. Boron (B)

3. Chlorine (Cl)

4. Manganese (Mn)

5. Zinc (Zn)

6. Copper (Cu)

7. Molybdenum (Mo)

8. Nickel (Ni)
